Our Story
BoardGameFamily began in 2018 when founder Michael Johnson noticed a troubling trend: families were spending less quality time together, increasingly absorbed in individual screens and digital distractions. As a lifelong board game enthusiast and father of three, Michael knew there had to be a better way.
What started as a small popup booth at local community events quickly grew into a passion project. Michael began curating a collection of games specifically designed to bridge generational gaps, combining educational value with pure entertainment. The response was overwhelming – families were hungry for meaningful ways to connect.
By late 2018, we opened our first brick-and-mortar location in Austin, Texas. Our store became more than just a retail space; it transformed into a community hub where families could discover, learn, and play together. We hosted weekly game nights, ran workshops for beginners, and provided personalized consultations to help every family find their perfect game.
Today, we're proud to serve thousands of families across America, with a catalog of over 500 carefully selected games. Every game we stock has been personally tested by our team and real families to ensure it delivers on our promise: creating unforgettable memories around the game table, not in front of screens.
